The Viaje Leaded is the 15th release under the Exclusivo line. The Leaded is different than the rest of the Exclusivo line because it uses special tobacco called Medio Tempio. Medio Tempio is the highest priming leaf, which means it is usually cut from the stalk last, and comes from the top of the tobacco plant.

Quick Note: For this review we used my rating system. You can view it in detail here.
The Leaded starts with notes of wood - I personally would call it oak - and some fruit notes I can’t quite put my finger on. As I smoke into the Leaded I would start to call this note tangerine. There is the acidic flavor of the tangerine, but the “citrus bite”. This actually pairs well with the notes of black pepper on the back of my tongue.
I would almost say I taste beer salt, like Jerad did in his review of the 7-20-4 Hustler, but I could be wrong. It is really shocking to me how the first half of the Leaded is nothing like I expected it to be. The Leaded got a little soft at this point, and the burn got a little off, but I was able to easily correct it.
The pepper comes though on the retrohale as I creep towards the middle of the Leaded. The body is definitely medium plus, but the strength is in the medium range. There are notes of bitter coffee which are present.
Notes of cedar are present as well as buttermilk creaminess. The black pepper is still present and most noticeable on the retrohale. The pepper flavor has increased in intensity from the very beginning of the Leaded. There are some notes of leather on the finish, but they are very faint.
Towards the end, notes of sour bread, pepper, mint, and cedar are present. The final third really shows the power of Nicaraguan tobacco with the strength hitting the full mark.
Conclusion: I am going to be really sad when I smoke through my box of Leaded. I don’t think this is the best cigar Viaje has done, but it is, IMHO, the best cigar they have produced in a while. The Leaded was complex, balanced, and had the perfect depth of flavors.
I went a little bearish on Viaje last year after reviewing the TNT and C-4. I personally think Viaje has turned a corner and is having a great year. I think the Leaded is going to age like a champ, and if I keep from smoking them all right now will be very interested in seeing how the Leaded changes over time.
Overall Rating: 94 AKA “Box Purchase” – Hell, I bought a box and smoked half of it already :)
