The Mederos brand has been around for about five years, but Cubanacan (celebrating their 10th year) is bringing it back with new bands and packaging. The line is named for Robert Mederos, the owner of Cubanacan. The Mederos is also available in a Habano and an Oscuro, which I have reviewed over the last couple of weeks. But, today I am trying out the Connecticut version.

Pre-light: The wrapper has a mix of light, sweet tobacco notes and a very interesting floral, apple blossom aroma. There is also that connecticut spice, but it is mild and in the background. The foot really ramps up on the apple note, but here it is more like a dried apple note. The cold draw is mild, with small amounts of hay and tobacco, but the spice tingle builds up.

Beginning: The Mederos Connecticut starts out with what I expect from a Connecticut. It is on the mild side, with just the slightest spice. The profile is creamy, with notes of marshmallow and graham cracker. I am really enjoying this cigar too. The finish is slightly dry, with a graham cracker flavor, almost zero spice and it lingers for a good while. Smoke, ash and burn are all spot on.

Middle: The Mederos Connecticut continues along nicely. The main body is semi creamy with a a clean, toasty graham cracker flavor, which is simply delicious. The strength and body are definitely mild, but this is a connecticut, so it is just in line with what I want. The burn has still never needed correction, but the ash, though nicely formed, falls off easily.

End: Closing out, the Mederos Connecticut adds in a little bit of toasted nuttiness, which blends in well with the graham cracker and occasional marshmallow notes. The smoke production has been thick and pleasant smelling from the start and that doesn’t change. Even the retrohale is calm, with no real bite or burn and an enjoyable room note.

Conclusion: The Connecticut version of the Mederos hits the nail on the head! Everything I look for in a Connecticut, and done so well. Great construction and an excellent room note. I could smoke one of these anytime and all week long. These would make an excellent 'go-to' Connecticut. And at this price point, a box seems like a no-brainer.

I t really redeemed the Mederos' for me. Didn't care for the Habano or Oscuro, but I smoked this guy down to less than half an inch!
