Review: McClelland No. 2015 Virginia Perique Flake

McClelland's No. 2015 Virginia Perique Flake is a blend of rich orange and red Virginians with a dose of St. James Perique, to keep it interesting.

Tin/Jar Note: Very smokey. Lots of hickory and mesquite wood notes.

Visual: Pressed, cut squares of stalk-like tobacco slivers with light tan speckles.

Flavors: This is a very straightforward tobacco. Simple, natural Virginia tobacco flavors, with some Perique in there for a little after bite.

Smoking Experience: The first bowl needed to be relit quite a bit, but the second bowl smoked perfectly from start to finish. So I believe that the first one was a fluke. Nice easy going smoke, nothing spectacular to note, but it was enjoyable.

Tobacco Strength: Medium

Body: Medium

Room Note: Tolerable

Comparable Tobacco: Not sure really.

Conclusion: No. 2015 Virginia Perique Flake is a solid tobacco. Great to have if you are looking for something stable and steady to smoke.

The 2015 is my go-to bulk tobacco blend. There isn't a reason to have a couple ounces of this at all the time. It's also worth playing around with different packing methods with #2015. With bigger pipes, you can just roll it all up and stuff it in a pipe. Also rub it all out nicely and try it again. The flavors can change rather dramatically with different packing.

Interesting notes about packing, I'll keep that in mind. Looks like I had a similar conclusion about this tobacco, it's a great go-to and having some on hand is a good idea. :)
