The Untamed by La Aurora is billed as the strongest cigar in the La Aurora portfolio.  La Aurora is known more for medium strength cigars with lots of flavor like the Cien Anos.  The Untamed is a cigar that was blended for the "modern palate" with lots of strength and full flavor to back it up.

Pre-Light: The aggressive look of the Untamed goes well with the name and the fact that it is a full strength cigar.  The foot band conjures up images of Jurassic Park and gives the cigar ample shelf appeal.

The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper had a rugged look and smelled of damp wood, hay and dates.  The cold draw was thick with heavy notes of dried fruit, hay and dry cocoa.

Beginning: The Untamed started off with a nice mix of sweet and spice.  The sweetness came in the form of a dry cocoa note that never became more than a side note.  The red pepper spice came on strong on the tongue and on the retrohale.  The first third maintained the sweet and spice combo, but the spice was the main attraction.

Middle:  The middle portion of the Untamed took on more of a "classic maduro" profile.  There were some big chewy notes of earth and molasses to go along with the ever present red pepper.  The profile became more earthy and spicy while the sweetness took a back seat.  This is where the strength took off as well.  The beginning was a solid medium to medium-plus in strength, but once I hit that second third it jump into the full category.

End:  There wasn't a ton of change in the final third.  The sweetness gained a little strength, but not enough to dramatically change the profile.  The red pepper spice was settling on the tongue as well as remaining present on the retro.  In short, the Untamed was a bit of a pepper bomb.

Final Thoughts:  I think a lot of people will like the Untamed.  It offers the full strength and full body that the modern palate craves.  It was a bit too peppery for me.  As most of you know, I like sweetness and balance in my cigars and while the Untamed was balanced it didn't offer up much sweetness.  If you like a cigar with a ton of spice, lots of strength and great depth of flavor, then you need to give the Untamed a try.

Rating: 88 AKA "5-Pack

Occasionally I get in the mood for a spicy cigar and when I do I could see myself reaching for an Untamed.   I'll keep a 5er on hand for such occasions.  I think folks who crave spice and strength will love it and probably buy several 5-packs.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Untamed but if it ages well I think they will get better over time....

Yeah this stick didn't do anything for me either, very disappointed in it.
