Review: La Aurora Preferido Corona Cameroon

I recently received a sampler of the new La Aurora Preferido Corona line. I honestly knew nothing about these, which is actually good for a review. I also love the corona vitola, so that's double good. I will be reviewing these one per week, starting today with the Cameroon. This is one of the first, if not THE first, Cameroon I've smoked, so we'll see how I like it.

Quick Note: For this review I used the CF rating system. You can view it in detail here.

The La Aurora Preferido Corona Cameroon is a very nice looking cigar. Great looking band on perfectly sized cigar. The wrapper was VERY aromatic. It was almost an overload of aromas, but most prevalent was a wet leather scent with spices mixed in. The cold draw flowed nicely and hit me with a white pepper blast on my tongue. There are also some spicy, woody notes and some leather in the background, but mostly it's spicy. My whole mouth is tingling.

The first third, as expected from the cold draw, has lots of white pepper spice. There is also a "clean" woody note, with just the slightest hint of nuttiness. The retrohale only has a slight burn to it at this point and creates a creamy, wood flavor. The finish is very long and creamy, very creamy actually, not sweet creamy but white pepper spice creamy. The smoke is pouring off this cigar in clouds and the burn, though a bit wavy is great and the ash is strong.

As I entered the second third the creaminess fades out and is replaced with a woody note. There is also an interesting spice note to it, that I attribute to the Cameroon wrapper and my inexperience with it. The retrohale has developed a stiff burn and the finish has a nice dry spice to it now. The spice really ramps up towards the end of this third. The smoke is just crazy thick!

The final third really kinda lost my interest, to be honest. There was a leathery tobacco note, that turned into a very smokey, wood note. I'm not positive what it was, maybe it was the leathery note, because I am not a big fan of that, but it just wasn't working for me. The burn was still good, but the ash flowered and didn't hang on long, but no big deal.

For this review, I would just follow my flavor profile. If it fits your likes, definitely give it a try because it is a quality cigar. I just found that I did not like the profile from the Cameroon tobaccos. So, for me, I wouldn't go out and get any of these, but now I know I don't appear to be a Cameroon fan. ;) Hence, my rating will be low based on my personal preference, just a reminder.

Let me tell you....the Conn. Broadleaf wrapped corona was amazing, my favorite cigar to come out of the DR this year, the foot dumped smoke just how I like it ;-)

The smoke off each one I've smoked so far has been amazing. Thick! :)

I was going to try the Cameroon next but I haven't picked one up yet...might go with the Brazilian Maduro too, idk after your review.

Interesting that this wasn't that good. I have smoked the preferidos cameroon lancero and absolutely loved it.

Charlie & Stefan - My opinion was that I did not care for it. It wasn't good to me. The cigar burned well and had lots of flavors, just not the flavors I care for. It's the only thing about a review that's hard to convey. I try to objectively review what I get from the cigar, but my RATING is more my opinion. And I would try this cigar again to give it a chance to turn me around, but I'm not going out to buy more. Basically, if your profile tends to align with mine, then you may not care for it either.
