Quick note: For this review I used Cigar Federation's rating system

The wrapper has a very pleasant aroma of mustard covered pretzels, with earthy & manure notes in the background. The foot has a similar sweetness but with more depth and a deep honey note. The cold draw is vibrant, with clean tobacco notes, caramel, cashew, and a very mild white pepper finish.

The first third of this Antaño CT has bold mix of leather, wood, and red pepper, with a peppery and spicy cedar finish. A strong start to a very different Connecticut. The sweetness expected from a Connecticut makes an appearance randomly as a mild smokey, caramel note. This cigar is medium-full to full across the board here.

The second third adds herb and lemongrass notes, while the power of this cigar takes a small step back. There is a dry cracker flavor on the finish, with a dulled, black pepper note. The retrohale alternates between spicy pepper and pitted fruit notes. The body is full here, with flavor and strength a solid medium-plus.

The final third follows actually gets more in-line to a Connecticut profile, which is different considering that cigars usually get stronger towards the end. There is a dry graham cracker finish and a smokey cream note, along with some dry, nuttiness. At this point I would call it medium-full across the board.

- Perfect burn and a tight ash.

- More power & complexity than a traditional Connecticut.

- Definitely for the more experienced smoker.

Profile:                                       Overall Flavors:

  • Flavor: Full.                         - Wood
  • Strength: Medium-Full        - Cashew
  • Body: Full                           - Smokey

Final Thoughts:

The Antaño CT is another cigar that fits into the “redefined” Connecticut profile. A Connecticut wrapped cigar that packs the punch expected from a much darker wrapper. In fact, there isn’t much here other than the wrapper that makes this much of a Connie. Though, I’m sure those that love the powerhouse cigars would feel that the wrapper and lower intensity make this a good morning alternative that won’t leave them wanting more. I personally prefer a milder Connecticut, with more sweet and cream notes, but the Antaño CT is in no way out of my wheelhouse.
