One of the fun booths at the IPCPR 2015 is the Dissident crew. “Gweedo C” and “Red Ryan” do things a little bit differently in the industry, which always makes for an interesting chat for us.
The Dissident Soapbox Lancero is a bit of a white whale. It’s been reported as an ‘event only’ cigar, but the truth is that this is an internal blend to Dissident. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one, count your fortunes.
This cigar will never be released. It’s not for sale. Ever. That’s one of the many reasons why #DissidentSucks
Last year we did a review of the Dissident Bloc which scored a 90 rating AKA “Box Split”.

If only you could buy them … but you can’t.
The nose on the Soapbox Lancero is leather and some minerality on the wrapper, with sweet hay and spices on the foot.
The first few draws reveal some sweetness, cedar and light spices. The retrohale is pepper, spices and all wrapped up with creamy cedar. The retrohale is extremely balanced, with a light bit of earth coming through after a while. There’s a sweet cedar that starts to linger between draws. The profile continues to evolve until each draw finishes with a sweet creaminess, spices and cedar. As the Soapbox lancero moves to the second third, some leather and spices that develop sitting at medium almost medium plus strength. Outstanding.
In the second third the profile is more of the rich creamy sweetness with spices. There’s a rich, strong cedar on the retrohale which is more prominent than the first third. There’s a little bit of cocoa coming through as the middle third winds down.
Loads of cocoa going into the last third. The spice has evened out on the retrohale and the profile is balanced across the board for strength.
The Soapbox lancero is an absolutely fantastic cigar. I could smoke these back to back all night. I’m very fortunate to have had the chance to smoke this, and I look forward to more Dissident releases.
The Dissident Soapbox lancero would be great in combination with a bourbon, rum, or a rich sherried scotch.
