Cubo Cigars (by Dapper Cigar Co.) is based on a simple idea. Recreate classic Cuban profiled cigars out of Nicaragua. Although, trying to create medium-bodied cigars from a country known for it's bold and powerful tobaccos can be tough. The Connecticut uses a "Cloud-Grown", Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper from Oliva Tobacco and Nicaraguan binder and filler from the Jalapa and Condega regions. They are produced under Cuban cigar legend  Gonzalo Puentes of A.S.P and Perdomo, at Tabacaleras Carreras in Estelí.

Prelight: The wrapper is clean, with minimal veins and a light toothiness. The aroma from it is a mix of spicy-cedar and a sweet cream, with a deep, sweet, almost toffee-ish aroma from the foot. The cold draw is smooth, with notes of dried fruit, mainly apple.

Beginning:  To start with, the Cubo Connecticut is very mild. The flavors are muted wood and sweet cream, with a dry and almost gritty finish. Towards the end of this third, the profile becomes much smoother and a bit creamier. There is also more body and more pronounced flavors.

Middle: The second third is much better. The profile is smooth and slightly sweet, with flavors of dried apple, toasted nuts and notes of toasted marshmallow. The burn has been dead on, needing no touchups.

End: The theme continues, as the body pulls up into a full medium. Nothing too crazy, it’s still a Connecticut style smoke, but with enough body to hold up. The flavors are a nice mix of orange, cedar and cashew. Still a razor sharp burn and a solid, light grey ash.

Final Thoughts: I have become a huge Connecticut fan as of late, and there are a lot of great Connies out there. If you made a list of all the ones I have smoked, this one lands somewhere in the bottom of the second third for me. It’s not great, but it IS good and I did smoke it to the end.
