Prelight:

The wrapper aroma is slightly acidic, with notes of leather, dirt, and cedar. The foot is more inviting, with notes of orange, coffee, and vanilla. The cold draw, strangely, just tastes musty, like damp wood.

Smoking:

The first puff or two has that damp wood note, but that quickly gives way to a creamy profile. The main note it a bread flavor, similar to a bagel, with just the slightest hint of honey. The finish is dry with a very mild white pepper note.

The second third has a grain and wood heavy profile. Towards the end of this third there is a salty note and then suddenly jalapeño. It hits with the same burn as biting into a fresh jalapeño, with burn that runs to the back of the throat. There are also some nutty and vegetal notes mixed in here.

The final third ramps up the strength and body, becoming a solid medium-full. The jalapeño note cycles in and out, sometimes just a flavor and other times with the pepper burn. This Connecticut finishes strong in strength, with a muted profile of tobacco, wood, and vegetal notes.

Notes:

- Burn was perfect with no need to relight or touch-up.

- The profile was VERY unique, which helps justify the cost.

Profile:                                                                 Overall Flavors:

  • Flavor: Unique                                            - Wood
  • Strength: Medium                                       - Bread/Grain
  • Body: Medium-Full                                     - Jalapeño

Final Thoughts: The Cohiba Connecticut is a different cigar, for sure. Flavors that are not so common and that are also very pronounced, makes for a Connecticut that can keep most cigar smokers engaged. The price point is high, making this an obvious competitor for Davidoff and the like. Maybe not an everyday smoke, but give one a try if you want experience something different.
