I purchased two Arturo Fuente Opus X Perfecxion Xs as a part of the Arturo Fuente 2012 Extremely Rare Holiday Collection.  The Holiday Collection comes with 5 pairs of cigars from the Fuente line.   I had never lit up an Opus X before, and after having a particularly lousy Monday this seemed like the cigar that could turn things around.

Grown and rolled in the Dominican Republic , Opus X series comes in a wide variety of vitolas ranging from Petit Corona all the way up to A series.

“If it’s not clear by this point I found the Arturo Fuente Opus X Perfecxion X to be quite an exceptional cigar”

Surgeon’s Review:

This was to be my first experience with Opus X. Some cigars are difficult to come by as a Canadian aficionado, the Opus X line is very hard to come by at the best of times for most smokers.

After careful examination I picked up white pepper and cedar but not much else. I wasn’t quite sure what I was expecting but I was a little underwhelmed here.

On the cold draw the flavor profile was almost entirely dominated by white pepper that lingers. There was some cedar but it was quite faint.

I lit up and started to take the Perfecxion X in and I found the first few draws quite subtle with profile of sweet honeysuckle. I’m blown away by the delicate but delicious start here. The pepper I was getting on the nose and cold draw is barely perceptible. The flavors continued until about the 30 minute mark where some leather came in to up the complexity. A nicely balanced first third.

As the first third winds down there is some hay coming through as I hit the end of the first third.

The middle third carried through much of the same flavor profile from the first. I’m still getting the primary note of honeysuckle coming through here again. The white pepper starts to mix with a savory and fatty meat combination that breaks through at the end of each draw and lingers. This combination mellows in intensity at the halfway point.

By the last third the flavor complexity has built to a fantastic crescendo. All of the previous flavors are present and in a harmonious balance. An amazing finish to an incredible cigar. My total smoking time was 2 hours and 39 minutes.

If it’s not clear by this point I found the Arturo Fuente Opus X Perfecxion X to be quite an exceptional cigar. I now have a great appreciation for why the Opus X sells out rapidly when they come into stock. The Extremely Rare Holiday Collection that I purchased represents a phenomenal deal for the money, but I think it’s about time I picked up a box of the Opus X Perfecxion X.
