Quick Note: For this review we used my rating system. You can view it in detail here.

Right out of the gate there is a blast of black pepper, earth, and a chocolate like sweetness. The pepper dialed back pretty quickly and was replaced by a very gritty earth. At this point the draw was a little tighter than I would normally like. The body is full and very chewy.

The ash really held on like a champ throughout the entire cigar. It was the ideal “stack of quarters”.

The notes of leather and toast kicked around the middle. I clipped a little more of the head away from the cigar and it helped with the draw quite a bit. After doing this my experience became a whole lot better in terms of the definition of the flavors. The leather notes were much more rich and hearty but finished clean.

There are notes of chocolate, white pepper, and heavy earth.

At this point I would call the cigar a solid medium in terms of strength, but full bodied. I can’t really understate how “meaty” the cigar is. During points of the cigar I was reminded of steak. There were a few notes of carmel like sweetness which popped in and out.

Throughout the Northern the flavors remain the same but do change a bit in depth and tone.

Conclusion: I enjoyed the Northern. It wasn’t the best cigar I have smoked from Crowned Heads, but it is enjoyable and I think every can find something enjoyable about it. It is good representation of what US Connecticut should be.

Overall Rating: No Rating due to my relationship with Crowned Heads

This new friendship CH has with My Father seems to be shifting their profiles away from my usual tastes, going more earth & pepper than my favorites of the brand, Four Kicks & Headley Grange.

Jared - I am not surprised you said this. EPC from the DR is completely different.

Charlie - I don't love Broadleaf as much as I love San Andres. It is a solid cigar, but it won't be making my Top 10.

Mickey - exactly. I don't want to be called "biased" :)
