This was supposed to be a group review, but Rob got sick and the other guys got busy. So I stuck to a one paragraph format and kept my notes short in nature. If you are not familiar with D'Crossier, I did an interview with Santana the owner at IPCPR earlier this year. You can see that video HERE. John also did a review of the L'Forte and absolutely loved it HERE. One thing to note, Santana closed the foot on this cigar, which should affect the release of ammonia and make the cigar age differently. the foot looks fantastic honestly in regard to construction.
Wrapper: Costa Rica
Filler: Costa Rica & Dominican Republic
The Diplomacy was very smooth, nutty, creamy, dark and toasty in the first third. I was very impressed, and it reminded me a dessert that kept me coming back for more. The middle saw brown sugar on the draw, with a nice black pepper burn on the retro. By the end, I kept tasting toasty cookies, some coffee at times, others the nutty flavors took over. Overall, very impressed with the Diplomacy.
Rating: Box Split – 90. This was such an excellent cigar, I would feel criminal to give it any less than a 90. While the body overall was a bit more then I like, the smoking experience was perfect. This is my second blend I have smoked from Santana at D’Crossier, and he is doing some very good things in Costa Rica. In a sea full of boutiques, his blending stands out. I talked to my local shop owner immediately and told him to look into picking the brand up. I highly suggest trying a D’Crossier if you get your hands on one.
