As some of you may know (or none of you), my Wife and I had our first child a little over 3 months ago. Since then, though he's a pretty awesome kid, things have been busy. Every night I say to myself that I want a cigar, then the next thing I know it's 9pm and I'm tired as shit. Friday night came around, the boy went to bed pretty easy and my Wife looked like she was ready to fall asleep on the couch at 8. It was a little rainy, so I packed my bag and headed out to the garage. I pulled up my big black leather banker's office chair and took out some homebrew IPA, scotch, a Cusano 18 Maduro, and the classic Ron White dvd.
The cigar was nicely wrapped with no visible flaws and had a smooth cold draw. I had a nice light on it, and it didn't take long for the smoke to start rolling. I originally didn't plan on lighting this to sit and pay attention to every flavor and bit of smoke that rolled off. Well, I didn't end up doing that anyway because I still don't know what I'm tasting. Throughout it's life, it had some great 'maduro' flavors that I'm still getting used to since I've always just been a 'medium' body smoker as apposed to full. I would say at times it was even a little chocolatey. I had the nearly double ipa that helped to break down the flavors and add some serious contrasts.
Overall, it was a great smoke. I smoked it down to a nub for as far as I could go, which I rarely do. This cigar came from a bomb that I received after missing CI's CigarFest. I would definitely pick up a few more of these if I came by them in a shop. More importantly than the cigar itself, was the night as a whole. It was excellent. I turned into the drunk guy sitting in his garage by himself laughing his ass off at a 10 year old stand up. I already told my wife that this is something I'm going to have to do at least once a month now. It was a great experience to just get out, not worry about anything and just relax.
