Drew Estate, one of the world’s largest makers of hand-made cigars and creators of such popular brands as Acid, Liga Privada, and Undercrown, recently named Willy Herrera as its Master Blender. This promotion comes on the heels of Willy’s first blend with Drew Estate, the Herrera Esteli scoring a 94 in Cigar Aficionado and being named their #8 cigar of 2013 (in the Piramide Fino vitola). Building on that success, Willy has added a Limited Edition Lancero to the award winning line.

Cigar Stats: The Herrera Esteli 2014 Limited Edition Lancero measures 7 x 38 and comes equipped with the same tobaccos as the regulaer production line, an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Honduran binder, and a Nicaraguan filler. Production is limited to 2,000 boxes of 15 with a single retailing for $12 and a box for $180. For those interested, the other sizes in the Herrera Esteli line are as follows: Short Corona Gorda (5.25 x 46, $7.95) Robusto Extra (5.5 x 52, $8.75) Lonsdale Deluxe (6 x 44, $8.95) the above-mentioned Piramide Fino (6 x 52, $10.45) and my favorite smoke on the market, the Toro Especial (6.25 x 54, $9.35).

Appearance: The wrapper is light-to-golden brown and delicate looking. The veins are small and the triple cap is neat and clean. The primary band is the same one used on the core line while the secondary band announces the stick as a limited edition.

The Smoke: The first third showcases a blast of pepper that eventually transitions into a smooth and creamy butter flavor that coats the mouth. These attributes, minus a good portion of the pepper, carry over to the second third, the meat of the smoke, with the addition of leather, cedar, and a mild sweetness on the finish. The final third brings back some of the earlier spice. The draw is perfect and, as with most Drew Estate blends, the smoke is thick and abundant.

Verdict: Like any of the cigars from the Herrera Esteli line, this is a good smoke. But, I’m not a huge fan of lanceros and much prefer the Toro Especial. That being said, if you are a fan of this size I highly recommend you give one a try. Especially since they are so limited. I just ordered the Esteli Piramide Fino Sunday. Looking forward to lighting it up.

While a lot of the reviewers out there prefer the Lonsdale, it's the Piramide Fino that's supposed to be the tastiest.
