There is nothing better than hanging out around a roaring fire on a crisp fall evening with a cup of coffee. And nothing goes better with that cup of java than a cigar. Enter the Angelenos 2009 Double Robusto. Produced by Prometheus, the Angelenos line is a creation by Prometheus founder and CEO Keith K. Park to celebrate the city of Los Angeles and the passionate cigar lovers that reside within.
Cigar Stats: The Angelenos, manufactured by Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia, sports an Ecuadorian wrapper with a Dominican binder and filler, and is available in five sizes: Robusto (5½x50, $9.50), Double Robusto (5¾x52, $9.95), Toro (6x50, $9.95), Lonsdale (6¼x44, $8.95), and Gran Toro (6½x54, $10.95).
Appearance: The light golden-brown, Connecticut-seed wrapper is free of any oils or veins and an absolute joy to behold. The pack is firm, the cap is clean, and the soft box-press is very comfortable in the hand.
The Smoke: The draw on the Angelenos is effortless, and the smoke produced is flavorful and abundant, rivaling the volume produced by the fire pit at my feet. A very, very mild pepper is apparent for the first inch or so, in conjunction with a vanilla sweetness. I’m then hit with caramel, almonds, and a hint of pine. These flavors, with the vanilla, dance in and out for the remainder of the stick with the addition of some floral notes near the end.
Verdict: The Angelenos line is a testament to the fact that mild cigars don’t have to be boring. Offering a nice complexity, the Angelenos brings some very rich and intense flavors to the table and distributes them to perfection.
