Fresh on the heels of thier WTC Memorial fundraiser, Lakewood, NJ's Icarus Brewing Company is planning two new can releases this week.
First, Icarus is introducing a new version of Double Dry Hopped Not A Schooner. Like previous incarnations, this release will be an 8.5% ABV offering. Label art on the can reads, "Heavily Oated North East Brux Imperial India Pale Ale copiously dry hopped with Columbus, Amarillo, Citra, and Lupulin Mosaic then Double Dry Hopped with Lupulin Citra". The original Not A Schooner initially debuted in July 2017 with the first incarnation of DDH Not A Schooner coming out that December.
When we spoke with Jason Goldstein, Owner and Head Brewer at Icarus, he told us that Not A Schooner "originally started as an experimental test of Brux Trois yeast on Yacht Juice and evolved into something all of its own. For this version we added an extra 33 pounds of Lupulin Citra on top of the existing hop profile creating an overly juicy citrus bomb with a slight Brux tart bite."
The second new can will be the first release of an Icarus staple - ChewBocka the Masticator. ChewBocka the Masticator is a 7.7% ABV Dopplebock Lager that originally debuted in January 2017. Can art for ChewBocka reads, "Named for our beloved Brewhouse Dog Chewy, this German style Double Bock was brewed with Munich, Vienna, and Chocolate Malts, hopped with Hallertauer Mittelfrueh, and then Lagered for an extended period".
When we asked Goldstein why he chose to release this as a his first Lager can, he informed us that ChewBocka "is very near to my heart as its a base recipe I've been brewing since my early introduction into brewing. ChewBocka the Masticator Doppelbock is an extremely malty German Lager with notes of chocolate and toffee with a clean finish."
Both cans will be released beginning Wednesday, April 24th.
