Booze News: Icarus Brewing Company Releasing DDH Power Juicer 10416 and First Leap

Fresh on the heels of the release of On The Job and a fundraiser at the taproom to coincide with its release, Lakewood, NJ's Icarus Brewing Company is planning two new can debuts this week.

The first new beer is a variant of the previously released Power Juicer - Double Dry Hopped Power Juicer 10416.  Double Dry Hopped Power Juicer 10416 is a 7.5% ABV Imperial India Pale Ale with Lactose.  Label art for the beer reads, "Heavily Wheated and Oated North East Imperial India Pale Ale with Lactose copiously dry hopped with Galaxy, Columbus, Lupulin Citra, and Double Dry Hopped with Experimental 10416.

Icarus first experimented with 10416 in their draft-only Triple IPA, Coronal Mass Ejection. When we reached out to Jason Goldstein, Owner and Head Brewer of Icarus, he told us, "10416 gives notes of Resin, Orange, and a hint of Mint which I think works perfectly in the tropical punch of Power Juicer which is already packed with Galaxy, Lupulin Citra, and Columbus."

The second can is a completely new offering in the Icarus lineup - First Leap.  First Leap is an 8.5% ABV Imperial India Pale Ale.  The profile on the can art reads, "Heavily Oated and Wheated North East Imperial India Pale Ale hopped with Zeus and Taiheke then copiously dry hopped with New Zealand Green Bullet, Taiheke, Motueka, Lupulin Mosaic, and Zeus."

First Leap "is a heavily oated and wheated (with a good amount of Spelt) New Zealand inspired Imperial India Pale Ale", says Goldstein. He continued, "We decided to go almost exclusively with New Zealand hops on this one with Green Bullet, Motueka, Lupulin Mosaic, Zeus, and Taiheke. This leads it to be a full bodied North East with overwhelming amounts of Lime and dark fruit yet with an extremely different flavor pallet than we are typically used to."

When asked why the beer is called First Leap, Goldstein informed us, "We went with First Leap based off of it being mostly New Zealand hops and New Zealand is the birthplace of commercial Bungy Jumping, so the label is all bungy cord."
