On Friday, Icarus Brewing Company in Lakewood, NJ had their "cAnniversary" party to celebrate the one year anniversary of their first can release. All reports indicate that the crowd attending the event was the largest ever for Icarus. Icarus' Jason Goldstein told me that he was so excited about the response to the Barrel Fermented Bottles that Icarus would be "increasing the size of that program going forward". As all of this was going on, Icarus was already moving on to the next release as they received approval from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) on Friday for two new can labels - Bay Dreamer and We Want the Idaho Gold.
Bay Dreamer is a 5% ABV Session IPA that is a collaboration with Seaside Heights' Heavy Reel Brewing Company. On December 30th, 2017, Icarus and Heavy Reel announced a draft release of Bay Dreamer at Icarus. According to Goldstein, this version is an "updated and Double Dry Hopped version" of that original collab. Additionally, Icarus "changed the recipe around a bit to more match the IPAs we're brewing these days with some ideas from Heavy Reel as well".
The can art for Bay Dreamer reads, "Heavily Oated and Wheated Session India Pale Ale brewed with Heavy Reel Brewing using inspiration from their Seaside Brewery copiously dry hopped with Palisade, Lupulin Citra, and Lupulin Mosaic and then double dry hopped with Motueka, and Wakatu."
Also approved by the TTB is We Want the Idaho Gold. According to Goldstein, "We Want the Idaho Gold is a Double Dry Hopped version of We Want the Gold with a ton of Idaho 7 added in as the DDH. Idaho 7 brings out a lot of Apricot, and Papaya with a ton of resin and black tea to pair with the existing El Dorado and Lupulin Mosaic."
Can art for We Want the Idaho Gold indicates that it is an 8.1% ABV "Imperial India Pale Ale copiously dry hopped with El Dorado, Lupulin Mosaic, and Columbus and Double Dry Hopped with Idaho 7."
The original We Want the Gold initially debuted on tap at Icarus in May 2017, and debuted in cans in October.
According to Goldstein, "Bay Dreamer will release next Wednesday (25th) with Yacht Juice. We Want the Idaho Gold will release August 8th." When we asked what would release alongside Idaho Gold, we were informed that Idaho Gold is planned as a solo release currently as the brewery is "prepping to get can releases every week in August, so not every week will be a double release."
