Lakewood, NJ's Icarus Brewing Company continues to be one of the most talked about breweries in New Jersey, and, now, they're looking to be one of the most talked about in the country. Icarus announced today that they are entering five of their standout beers in this year's Great American Beer Fest: Power Juicer, Touching the Sun, Bang Kitty, Chewbocka and Barrel Fermented Wax Wings. In parallel back at home, Icarus is set to announce two can releases for this Wednesday.
First this week is the return of First Leap. First Leap is an 8.5% ABV Imperial India Pale Ale that originally debuted back in March. The profile on the can art reads, "Heavily Oated and Wheated North East Imperial India Pale Ale hopped with Zeus and Taiheke then copiously dry hopped with New Zealand Green Bullet, Taiheke, Motueka, Lupulin Mosaic, and Zeus."
Jason Goldstein, Owner and Head Brewer of Icarus, told us, "First Leap is heavy on the Grapefruit and Lime with a good amount of deep fruits to back them up." He added that it "drinks a lot lighter than 8.5% while still being creamy and full flavored."
Second on the docket this week is Icarus' first time canning one of their dessert stouts. Making Whoopie is an 8% ABV Imperial Milk Stout with Cacao, Vanilla, and Marshmallows. Can art for the beer reads, "Dessert Style Milk Stout brewed with English Malts, Debittered black malts, and heavily Oated. Conditioned on overwhelming amounts of Cacao, Madagascar Vanilla Beans, and Marshmallows."
Goldstein tells us, "Whoopie is a thick dessert stout brewed with English Malts, debittered Black Malts, and plenty of oats. We then conditioned it on Cocoa Nibs, Marshmallows, and Madagascar Vanilla Bean to mimic the actual taste of fresh Whoopie Pies with plenty of rich Cocoa and Marshmallow without an overwhelming amount of sweetness."
Both will be available in the Icarus tap room as well as normal distribution locations beginning this Wednesday.
