We've recently announced the news of a collaboration between Lakewood, NJ's Icarus Brewing Co and Seaside Heights' Heavy Reel Brewing Company, but that is not the only big Icarus collaboration debuting this week. According to Jason Goldstein, owner and head brewer at Icarus, the brewery is working with Asbury Park's Dark City Brewing Company and Point Pleasant Beach's Last Wave Brewing Co on a very interesting collaboration project - Jersey Triad.
Goldstein tells us for Jersey Triad, each brewery "brewed the same base North East IPA recipe and then put our own tweaks on them." The Icarus variant is a 7.9% ABV Brux Imperial IPA that is profiled as "Heavily Oated and Wheated Imperial India Pale Ale brewed with Saccharomyces "Brux" Trois and Lactose. Copiously dry hopped with Zeus, Lupulin Citra, and New Zealand Motueka."
Goldstein informed us that "Dark City Kettle Soured their variant, and Last Wave brewed it as a "Brut" IPA." Icarus is planning on releasing their version on Wednesday, and indicated that each brewery will "have releases through the week."
Stephen Bohacik, owner and head brewer at Dark City, told us that Dark City's variant "is kettle soured with our kettle culture, then fermented like normal with our house yeast." Dark City's variant will be released on Thursday.
Nick Jiorle, owner and brewer at Last Wave, told us that Last Wave "used Brut-style fermentation practices to lower the final gravity of the beer to make it supremely dry, crisp, and easy to drink, but still with that delightful fruity aroma and flavor you get from that hop combination." Last Wave's variant will be released on Saturday.
