Booze News: Heavy Reel Brewing Co. Releasing Drowning Clown Cans to Celebrate First Anniversary

Last April, Heavy Reel Brewing Co in Seaside Heights, New Jersey opened its door.  To celebrate its first anniversary, the brewery plans to release its first canned offering. On March 17th, Heavy Reel received approval from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) for a can label for Drowning Clown.

Drowning Clown is a 7% ABV DDH India Pale Ale that was one of the first beers available when Heavy Reel opened its doors last April.  Heavy Reel profiles Drowning Clown as "A ridiculous amount of late addition hops were added to this beer to give it a huge juicy taste along with aromas of tropical fruit and citrus. Hopped intensely with Citra, Amarillo and Mosaic."

When we reached out to Heavy Reel for details, the brewery responded, "It was suppose to be a surprise for our one year anniversary, but I guess the word [got] out."  The brewery continued, "We’re going to be releasing our first cans April 13th."

When asked why the brewery chose Drowning Clown, we were informed that the brewery doesn't "believe in having flagship beers but I guess if you put a gun to my head this would be it. Citra and Mosaic loaded up on the cold side. This is an evolution of a beer that I started brewing 5 years ago that continues to evolve. The name is an ode to our location in a dark way."
