In preparation for their first Anniversary, Seaside Heights, NJ's Heavy Reel Brewing Co has gone all-in on their can release approach. According to a filing with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) on March 30th, Heavy Reel received approval for a can label for Ukiyo.
Ukiyo is a 4.5% ABV Japanese-Style Lemongrass Rice Lager. Ukiyo first debuted on draft in the Heavy Reel taproom in early June 2018. The brewery profiles the beer as "Brewed with rice and malt. Expect clean, dry and refreshing with hints of lemon grass. Best paired with sushi and seafood. The name translates to "the floating world" living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life."
When we reached out to Heavy Reel for additional details, they told us, "Ukiyo is a beer that we brew during the warmer weather. A Japanese rice lager that is conditioned on fresh lemongrass." When asked when we could expect to see this released, Heavy Reel told us, "We will be releasing it late April or early May."
