Salchichas is Spanish for sausages and if you see a box of these cigars you will immediately understand the name. These come in 12 count boxes and are presented in rows of three; the cigars are chained together, with the foot of the first cigar trailing out and becoming the pigtail cap of next cigar. This styling makes the cigars look like linked sausages.

The wrapper was a milk chocolate brown with some noticeable veins but an overall very smooth appearance. The wrapper had an oily shine to it, and I also made a note that this cigar felt heavy in my hand relative to its size. The prelight draw gave some black pepper on the lips and tongue along with notes of leather and wood.
Smoking through the closed food I noticed medium strength black pepper spice, some woody flavors, and some damp earth type flavors. After another quick torching of the foot I got the cigar fully ignited. The first third opened up with some red pepper spice, a kind of salty/savory quality, some classic earthy tobacco notes, and just a touch of black pepper spice. As the first third progresses some cedar wood qualities and a honey sweetness entered the mix too.
Going into the second third the wood and honey sweetness take front and center, while the earthy and spicy qualities fade to the background and are most noticeable on the finish. There is still a gentle black pepper spice on the retrohale and I also picked up some graham cracker type flavors. About halfway through the second third I started to notice a citrus note that combined with the overall flavor profile and reminded me of lemon scones drizzled with honey.
Going into the final third the the wood flavors transitioned from cedar to a darker more oaky quality. The sweetness and cedar notes backed off, and more red pepper spice and earthy tobacco flavors come to the forefront. The slight salty/savory quality from the first third also returned. The cigar remained cool and did not exhibit any bitter or harsh flavors all the way to the end.
Total smoking time was about 1 hour 25 minutes.
I tend to enjoy cigars that are 54 ring gauge and smaller, so this 4 x 60 was out of my vitola wheelhouse. That being said, I still really enjoyed this cigar because of the flavors. This cigar delivers a lot of complexity for a large ring gauge, and also had noticeable transitions for being only 4” long. I made a few burn corrections along the way but it was nothing that detracted from my experience. I highly recommend giving this a try if you enjoy medium-full bodied cigars with full flavors, and think it’s a great blend of Aganorsa tobaccos.
