Review: Dunhill Aged Maduro Short Robusto

Dunhill is a brand that has been showing up on my radar more often in the past year. With their solid offering in the Heritage, and the very limited Seleccion Suprema from 2015.

At the 2016 IPCPR in Las Vegas, they unveiled a new Maduro offering, the first of its kind for the company.

The Dunhill Aged Maduro is sold in 10 count boxes and available as a Marveas (5-1/8x42), Short Robusto (4x54), and a Short Churchill (5-1/2x54).

Review:

The nose on the Dunhill Aged Maduro was saddle leather, some spices underneath with earthiness. In the foot, a lot of sweetness I would describe as strawberry mixed with hay.

The first thing I noticed was the satisfying smoke production. My initial flavor experiences were creaminess, leather, light pepper, spices, with a perfect draw. On the retrohale more of the same with the leather dialed back, and the creaminess and spices more intense.

As the first third progresses the leather expands into the post draw to linger between draws. The burn is razor sharp. With the first third winding down, some sweetness increases and adds some earth, as the leather decreases

In the middle third the sweetness evolves to add some nuttiness on the retrohale, the regular draw is still sweetness with subdued earthiness.

No sharp flavor transitions moving into the final third, there is some delayed earthiness on the post draw that doesn’t come through for 3 – 5 seconds. Some chocolate adds to the complexity with the last third winding down.

Total smoking time 1 hour and 5 minutes.

For their first Maduro release I think Dunhill is right on target. While the price point might be a bit high for some, it’s certainly well within the portfolio of their existing lines.

I would definitely pick up a 5er of these if I was in a B&M.

They'll be extinct in a couple of years unless something happens between Dunhill and BAT.  Better buy your 5-pack sooner rather than later.
