The differences in the way that cigars and cigarettes are made tells you a lot about the goal of the end product. For example, tobacco companies add ammonia to cigarettes while cigar manufacturers try to remove it. Why?
Cigarette manufacturers add ammonia to cigarettes to increase the absorption of the nicotine into the bloodstream, increasing the impact and the likelihood of addition. It is…Continue

Review by Robert Davis in Cigar.com
Couple weekends back, we rode the big beemer bagger down to Rock Hall Merryland, to stroll through the Pirates and Wenches street fair, where we visited a booth manned by Cigar Volante, distributors of Panacea Cigars, made by I forget who in Central America, at the behest of Flatbed Cigar Company. Truly a dizzying array of brands and sources. However, from the two I have smoked so far, I have to say that the results are absolutely and…Continue

Sans Soucy Vineyards and Winery is located on what used to be an old tobacco farm. Owners Paul and Jackie Anctil continue in their maintenance of the historic buildings, the tobacco heritage of their farm including wines that promote this wonderful synergy. and, in a recent visit Paul spoke of maintaining tobacco plants on the farm until it was no longer economically feasible to do so. We soon found a common interest in the synergy between wine and cigars and, beyond that, between…Continue

As I traveled Virginia talking to wineries about the other end of the connection, the aesthetic of wine drinking combined with cigar smoking, I soon realized that the the link went deeper than the enjoyment of the two in Virginia. The two are inexorably linked here, especially in Southern and Southwestern Virginia where many of the new vineyards are grown on converted tobacco farms.
Wineries and the wine industry are becoming an important part of a state's economy In 1979 there were…Continue

Care about your cigars? This was a $20 purchase at Lowe's that has a remote transmitter (they use it "Outside") that I have in my Closidor but will also go inside your humidors. The inside of the Closidor is 64 degrees and is at 70% humidity compared to 71 degrees and 30% humidity in the office. High and low temperatures today were 74 and 64 degrees respectively. All you need. …Continue

Winter is a tough time for cigar smokers in our Nanny State society. Unlike cigarette smokers that can dash out into the cold for a 5 minute nicotine fix we truly love our indulgence and look for a cozy place, preferably next to a fire, where we can sip and smoke. Those are few and far between. I was fortunate to join the Southside Cigar Club, another Meetup group, for one of their Herfs in Hampton. They are fortunate to have several venues where they can smoke in relative comfort and I…Continue
