A La Flor Dominicana after Turkey and a Sindicato after Moving

Thursday we had a great Thanksgiving breakfast with our kids and grandkids, then had a low key, but delicious, Turkey feast with other family members.  After the dust settled, I picked out a cigar for my evening walk.  I couldn’t get past the top tray in the humidor where a La Flor Dominicana Cameroon Cabinet Chisel. I bought this cigar a few months back at a LFD event and it, along with a Double Ligero Chisel and a few others. The Chisel is 6″ x 54 and the wrapper is a Cameroon Ligero,…

The Ezra Zion FHK, released in January of this year, is part of the company’s Honor Series. The initials stand for “Fathers of Hoover and Kelly,” after the owners, Kyle Hoover and Chris Kelly. This is our fourth review of an Ezra Zion cigar. The first one, Jamais Vu (then called Inception) was our #1 cigar of 2012 and the second one, Tantrum, was our #1 cigar of 2013.…

Gran Habano, Martinez and Foundry Cigars

The weather’s been all over the place this week, from 70 on Monday to a few inches of heavy, wet snow today.  Between the weather, trying to get stuff done in the house so we can move in this weekend, and Thanksgiving tomorrow, it’s been a busy week. I still managed to get a few cigars in, they are helping me retain any sanity I have left.  I started off Sunday afternoon with a nice cigar from Gran Habano, the Gran Reserva No. 5 2010 Gran Robusto. This is a 6″ x 54 toro presented with…

The La Flor Dominicana 1994 is the newest cigar from LFD, which released at IPCPR 2014. This regular production cigar pays honor to Lito Gomez’s 20 years in the cigar business.

The LFD 1994 comes in four different vitolas which range in price from $7.5 to $8.3.

This will be a short review with Thanksgiving just a few days away.

Pre-Release Review: La Flor de Cano Siboney Exclusivo Canada 2014

My good friend Louis from Canada Humidor was going to be out of Havana and asked if I would attend on his behalf. My other good friend Keith from…

Review: Montecristo Double Edmundo

Released in 2013, the Double Edmundo is one of the two newest vitolas added to the Monecristo brand. It was released with the Petit No. 2 and both were brilliant release if you ask me. The Double Edmundo is a release that takes the brand to a new level and has now given the brand a large offering that is similar to the Magnum 50 in the H. Upmann brand and is a release…

Blind Man's Puff Review Posted

So I posted a pic a few weeks ago of the cigar I was smoking for a Blind Man's Puff Review.  It was a really fantastic cigar and I was stunned when I found out what it was... Well, the review is up and it looks like I game the damn thing a 97 in their scoring system! The way they do it is they have reviews basically fill out a survey about the cigar and based on your answers the score is generated... now if I reviewed and scored this for CigFed, it would have been more like a Box Split or…

Crux Cigars and a House of Emilio Event at The Wooden Indian

Friday night’s smoke was an interesting one. Back in August I picked up an interesting cigar, the Crux Ninfamaniac Dark.  This is a cool 7″ x 33 cigar is based on an old Cuban size, the Ninfa. The difference is that the Cuban Ninfa size is a parejo, and this Ninfamaniac is tapered on both ends. It’s a really nice looking cigar and it’s priced pretty reasonably, about $6.  I should have picked up the lighter wrapped version as well, the difference being that the dark version has a…

Review: Sindicato Hex

This Sindicato Hex starts off by looking good. A very well constructed perfecto, with clean seams and some small veins. The "fuse" style pigtail at the cap is a nice looking touch as well. The pre-light aromas are very rich! Lots of leather, cocoa & earth. Which, is backed up by a sweet, chocolately leather flavor on the cold draw.

Size: 6.25 x 52

Review: My Father CT Connecticut

The My Father CT Connecticut was released at IPCRP 2013.  The folks over at My Father have been busy over the last few years introducing several successful core lines including Flor de las Antillas and La Antiguedad. You can check out my La Antiguedad review from earlier in 2014.

Over the years My Father releases have been hit or miss for me.  I love the original My Father as well as…

Black Abyss, Dominican Big Leaguer and 601 La Bomba Cigars and an AshStay

It’s gotten cold here in PA, but fortunately no snow like in some areas of the country. I’m sure in February temps in the 30s will feel balmy, but in November it’s too cold, too soon.  Looks like I’ll be dipping into the supply of smaller cigars for a while!  In other news, I came across an ashtray via a Twitter follow called “AshStay”  This is a covered ashtray that actually looks pretty nifty. The one problem I have with the video they have on their site is that the woman in the…

Review: Quesada 40th Anniversary Corona Clasica

If there is a brand that I either love or hate depending on the specific cigar, it is Quesada. I find that they are a company that never produces a cigar that has me say "it was good," but rather I love this or I hate this. Because of that, I never give a lot of attention or find myself really holding on to the brand in the…

Review: (Quick Look) Exactus Maduro

This brand was recently introduced to my B&M and I figured I'd give them a go and see what they deliver.

So what I learned about Exactus Cigars is that they are produced in the Dominican Republic at a small factory called Tabacalera El Artista.  The company currently offers 4…
