Review: Falto Lonsdale

The Falto Lonsdale is far from a new cigar, but it is definitely new to me. Until just recently, I was not aware of this brand, but I ran into them at IPCPR and was able to learn more. Check them out here, at La Garita Cigar. The Falto Lonsdale, is a nice looking cigar. Great construction, smooth, clean wrapper and a nice in hand feel. The pre-light aroma was…

A Quick Trip to New York City with Some Cigars and a Party

We had an exciting couple of days cigar-wise this week! After fighting with the cold that prevented me from enjoying much of anything for a few days, my wife and I took off Monday morning for the Big Apple, New York City. Of course, there are a lot of great cigar spots in the city. We took a walk toward one of my usual spots, De La Concha. Unfortunately, the shop is closed for renovations and will reopen sometime in the first quarter of 2015 as Davidoff of Geneva 6th Avenue. They had a…

Review: La Palina Mr Sam

Last April the Reddit group /r/cigars had an entire month long ‘cold war’ where people were split into teams for the U.S.A. and Russia. Points were awarded for bombing the other side with cigars. The Mr. Sam I received was as a result of one of those exchanges.

I’m a huge fan of the La Palina Goldie No. 5, so I was eager to try out the Mr. Sam to see how it compared.

Rolled in the El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami, it was produced in a Robusto (4-3/4” x 54 RG), Corona (5.5” x…

Review: Tatuaje Verocu

Pete Johnson's Havana VI is a blend that I have always struggled with. It has been described as being a softer version of the "Brown Label," and that the cigar is composed with less ligero in the blend. It was released in 2006, three years after the "Brown Label,"  and since its release I have come across guys who really…

No Cigars Since Wednesday and a Few Minutes with Omar of Fratello Cigars

Dark times have descended upon me, as a scourge of sinus and bronchial unrest has made enjoying a cigar impossible.  I felt it coming on Wednesday, but Thursday the cold came on with a vengeance, and has made for a miserable few days. You see, I’ve taken Monday and Tuesday off so my wife and I can go to New York City for a couple days, mainly because we were invited to a 50th birthday party for our dear friend Mitchell, which is taking place in Brooklyn. My primary objective since…

Review: Total Flame Premium

The Total Flame Premium debuted at IPCPR 2014, along with a few other new lines. The Premium is made at the La Aurora factory, using La Aurora's Preferidio shape and tubo, under license. I got my sample at IPCPR though, and sadly they did not have the tubos. I smoked one of these at the En Fuego party, during the show, and I remembered that even after a day of smoking, this cigar was quite good. With an ash that held on for miles, so let's see how this one burns. The prelight gives off a…

Reviews: Ramon Allones Edición Regional Gran Bretaña Petite Belicosos

Ramon Allones is a brand I have little experience with, and I hate to say that really, because I adore the RASS and it has always been one of my favorite robustos.  I had a box of TEB AUG08 that was legendary, and I wish I never gave them out to my buddies they were so good.  There is something about the Ramon Allones profile that hits the palate with a wonderful honey note that drives me crazy.  I happened to receive this Gran Bretaña Exclusivo from Perkinke as a gift on the…

Not a lot of information is available on Arandoza Cigars, maker of today’s CYA subject, the White Label, but what I do know about this relatively new brand is that they are made at the La Zona factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, home to the very popular Espinosa Cigars.

CIGAR STATS: The Arandoza White Label, released last year, is the second blend in a line…

Review: D’Crossier Imperium Class Vintage Canonazo

This was supposed to be a group review, but Rob got sick and the other guys got busy. So I stuck to a one paragraph format and kept my notes short in nature.  If you are not familiar with D'Crossier, I did an interview with Santana the owner at IPCPR earlier this year.  You can see that video HERE.  John also did a review of the L'Forte and absolutely loved it …

Aging Room, Liga Privada and Royal Gold Kismet and Casino Gold Cigars

Thank you all for the kind words about my deer/car incident. There’s a lot of ways it could have turned out much worse, and it sounds like the car will get fixed so I’ll have my sexy black Toyota Yaris back in a few weeks!  I was ready to shop for a used car, something I could pay cash for, but I’d rather have MY used car back, I know where it’s been! I’d have a hard time replacing my Undercrown window sticker anyway!  In other news, this week the announcement came that Swisher…

What’s in a name? In the case of this particular stick, plenty. The 1875 Romeo y Julieta is one of Altadis USA’s newest releases – intended for brick-and-mortars only – but you may be scratching your head, thinking you’ve seen (or smoked) a cigar that goes by that name. You would be wrong, but only by a little. The Romeo y Julieta 1875 has been around for a while, but…

Review: Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan

It has been six years since Habanos S.A. released a new regular production Hoyo de Monterrey, and the release of this smoke could not have been more perfect. While the world is looking for larger ring gauge offerings, I believe the days of looking for super strong smokes is over and there is a return to a flavor…

Review: Arturo Fuente Opus X Perfecxion X

I purchased two Arturo Fuente Opus X Perfecxion Xs as a part of the Arturo Fuente 2012 Extremely Rare Holiday Collection.  The Holiday Collection comes with 5 pairs of cigars from the Fuente line.   I had never lit up an Opus X before, and after having a particularly lousy Monday this seemed like the cigar that could turn things around.

Grown and rolled in the Dominican Republic , Opus X series comes in a wide variety of vitolas ranging from Petit Corona all the way up to A…
