In an industry rife with celebrated family operations, the Garcia clan cuts a pretty high profile. At the head is Don Pepin Garcia, a master blender and maker now most closely associated with My Father Cigars, and flanked by his son, Jaime, and daughter, Janny. This summer, Janny stepped into the spotlight with…Continue

This is my review of the Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial series 2010 release.
Having previously enjoyed the Oliva 2011 I didn't think I'd be disappointed by the 2010. I picked up a strong smell of fresh roasted coffee with a strong backing of earth. The nose on this has you eager to light up.
As a limited production every year you know that Oliva…Continue

Good afternoon, everyone. I hope the day finds you all doing well. Those of you who find yourselves occasionally perusing the pages of The Cigarmy probably know that from time to time I like to shine the Cigar Spotlight on companies for which I have a great deal of admiration. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll also know that today’s Spotlight…Continue
The inspiration for Old Powder Keg cigars, part of the Battleground Cigar line, owned by Connecticut Valley Tobacconist in the Hazardville section of Enfield, comes from Colonel Augustus Hazard, who owned and operated the Hazard Gun Powder Company which produced 40% of the gun powder used during the Civil War.…Continue

This is my review of the Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente.
I picked up a mixture of cedar and other woods. There was strong earth coming off of it, but not much else going on here.
The wrapper on this is a rich brown color with flat smooth veins running throughout. The brown in the wrapper isn't one consistent color, it is mottled throughout. I found the band to be…Continue

This is my review of the Nica Libre Potencia in the Belicoso vitola.
The nose on this cigar was outstanding. I spent about 5 minutes enjoying the cavalcade of wonderful aromas coming off this stick. I picked up a rich tobacco and earth smell, sweet caramel, dried nuts and some cedar and other wood.
The Nica Libre Potencia Belicoso (5x54) has a golden brown color to it, with a lightly oiled look to the wrapper.…Continue

Some of you may remember that for the past two years I have been fortunate enough to go to the Dominican Republic and visit Chateau de la Fuente, the Fuente factory, and the CigarFamily Charitable Foundation for CFC (CigarFamily Celebration). Yesterday, the plans for the next event were publicly announced and published. I wanted to…Continue

Today I wanted to take a look at a couple of lines of cigars from Benny Gomez at Inter-America Cigars - the Havana Sunrise and Casa Gomez. The Havana Sunrise marque has appeared on the market a couple of times over the years, most recently being revived by Benny and son Loren somewhere around 2007,…Continue

The Sencillo line of cigars, brainchild of Prometheus founder Keith Park, has been around for a couple of years, earning some well-deserved plaudits for its initial offering, the Platinum. Its latest offering is Sencillo Black, made by Nestor Plasencia Jr. in Nicaragua, which we review here. As suggested…Continue

This is my review of the Oliva Nub Cameroon 460 in the Torpedo vitola.
I picked up a really interesting combination of earthy and molasses almost approaching a maple syrup. The nose has me eager to toast and light up.
The Oliva Nub 466 Cameroon box press torpedo from Oliva is a large gauge Nub (4x66) with tasty Nicaraguan tobacco. I know quite a number of aficionados…Continue

There is a certain cigar company that I had, for whatever reason, written off in my head. I’ll refrain from naming the company, because I didn’t think they were necessarily producing bad cigars…just not fit for my personal preferences and palate. I’d tried some of their offerings over the years and just decided they weren’t for me. So, as a whole I had avoided them for a long, long time. I have to admit to completely overlooking them whenever I visited shops. The thought of…Continue

Good afternoon, everyone. Earlier today, I sat down to prep for an upcoming Cigar Spotlight featuring Benny Gomez of Casa Gomez/Havana Sunrise cigars. As I was gathering some information from Benny and my archives, I realized we’re coming up on a year now since the first honest-to-goodness original content was posted on The Cigarmy back on …Continue
