Review: Epicurean Carnavale Lancero

The Epicurean Carnavale in the lancero format is simply great to look at. Just released at IPCPR14, there is not a whole lot of information out there about this cigar, but the 7x38, box pressed cigar has some great looks. The dark brown wrapper is velvety smooth, with minimal veins and well pressed seams. Topped off with a colorful, shiny gold band, portraying a mask, similar to those worn at masquerade parties. The prelight is giving off the scent of cocoa and cereal, with a little…

Group Review: Ortega Serie D Black

It was great having the opportunity to meet Eddie Ortega in person at the IPCPR 2014 in Las Vegas.  Eddie said the goal of the cigar was to come out with something more medium bodied as opposed to the more full bodied Serie D Maduro line.  He also moved away from the box press due to some feedback.

This was one of those cigars that was immediately high on the list for group…

Review: Warped Cigars La Colmena

Warped Cigars was one of the booths I was eager to visit when we arrived at IPCPR 2014 last week.  I had seen and heard a lot about Warped Cigars on Instagram and Twitter and I really want to check them out.  La Colmena (The Beehive) was released at the show along with Flor de Valle (Flower of the Valley). Their first release is called El Oso (The Bear) and features a blue bear face on the band.  We will have a group review of that on in the coming weeks.  Today we're talking about the new…

Another year down at IPCPR, and another year of good times and memories.  This year the IPCPR team was all business honestly, and we had very little time to relax.  As each day ended, I was looking forward to taking a nap, instead of going out.  We learned a ton…

Review: Eiroa CBT Maduro by CLE Cigars

The Eiroa CBT Maduro is the latest release form CLE Cigar Company and the second release to bear the Eiroa name.  Eiroa, of course, is the last name of the company founder, Christian Eiroa.

CBT stands for Capa, Banda, and Tripa which translates to Wrapper, Binder, and Filler.  From the title one can deduce that the CBT Maduro uses maduro leaves for the wrapper, binder and filler.  The wrapper looks and tastes like a San Andreas Madruo, but the origin of the tobaccos used has not…

Pre-Release Review: Regius Orchant 2014 Campana

Last year my Cigar of the Year was the Regius Orchant Robusto, a cigar that seemed like it was made for my palate, and strikingly similar to the Habanos I regularly smoke. This year, Akhil Kapacee and Mitchell Orchant teamed up again to rerelease the Robusto and add a Campana to the line, information about the initial release is here:.  The Campana is a torpedo shape sized at 5.5in x 52rg.  According to Kapacee, “Campana is an interesting size that will sell in the UK.  The…
