The Crowned Heads booth is the first place I wanted to go when we hit the IPCPR show floor. So, guess where we went first when we hit the show floor? I'll assume you all guessed right.…

Review: Epicurean Carnavale Lancero

The Epicurean Carnavale in the lancero format is simply great to look at. Just released at IPCPR14, there is not a whole lot of information out there about this cigar, but the 7x38, box pressed cigar has some great looks. The dark brown wrapper is velvety smooth, with minimal veins and well pressed seams. Topped off with a colorful, shiny gold band, portraying a mask, similar to those worn at masquerade parties. The prelight is giving off the scent of cocoa and cereal, with a little…

Royal Gold Nirvana, Villiger Caberete and Nat Sherman Timeless Cigars

Sunday was an absolutely beautiful day so, after doing a little yard work, I alternated between smoking cigars in my chair in the yard and smoking cigars in the pool.  We’ll be moving soon, so whether we’ll have a pool in the future is quite uncertain, so I’m trying to take advantage of the pool as much as possible.  I started the day with an old La Gloria Cubana Artesanos Retro Especialé Cubano from a box that came back with me from the DR in 2011.  These have aged nicely.  When that…

IPCPR 2014: Crux Cigars

Crux Cigars has been taking the social media community by storm all year. So, if you have not heard the name and can't name at least one of their blends, I would be surprised. They are constantly sharing photos of cigars in the factory, new blends and new…

Group Review: Crowned Heads Jericho Hill

Jericho Hill is the first full production release from Crowned Heads to be produced by My Father Cigars.  My Father also produced a limited run of the Las Calaveras for Crowned Heads earlier this year.  All of the previous cigars released by Crowned Heads were produced in the DR by Ernesto Perez Carillo including the…

Group Review: Ortega Serie D Black

It was great having the opportunity to meet Eddie Ortega in person at the IPCPR 2014 in Las Vegas.  Eddie said the goal of the cigar was to come out with something more medium bodied as opposed to the more full bodied Serie D Maduro line.  He also moved away from the box press due to some feedback.

This was one of those cigars that was immediately high on the list for group…

IPCPR 2014: UberGuide

You may be asking, why is Catfish writing about a cigar app when there are tons of cigar apps out there that are completely useless and we want to know about cigars! Personally, I use a scanner app on my phone as a consumer all the time.  I use it for…

Review: Warped Cigars La Colmena

Warped Cigars was one of the booths I was eager to visit when we arrived at IPCPR 2014 last week.  I had seen and heard a lot about Warped Cigars on Instagram and Twitter and I really want to check them out.  La Colmena (The Beehive) was released at the show along with Flor de Valle (Flower of the Valley). Their first release is called El Oso (The Bear) and features a blue bear face on the band.  We will have a group review of that on in the coming weeks.  Today we're talking about the new…

IPCPR 2014: Atabey, Bandolero, and Byron

Another year down at IPCPR, and another year of good times and memories.  This year the IPCPR team was all business honestly, and we had very little time to relax.  As each day ended, I was looking forward to taking a nap, instead of going out.  We learned a ton…

Gran Habano Baracuda, La Hermandad and Buena Vista Reserva and a Book

I guess I’m just in the habit of smoking new cigars this time of year because of going to the IPCPR for the last few years, although I did revisit an old favorite too.  I also read a book over the course of the week that I wanted to share. The book is called “From Seeds to Cigars” and is written by William Miller.  Mr. Miller is a photographer and graphic designer who had the good fortune to visit several factories and farms in Honduras and Nicaragua while working for Famous Smoke…

Some New Cigars: Gurkha, Nomad and Spectral from Flor de Gonzalez

In the IPCPR show spirit, I smoked some more newbies this week!  I’ve been seeing a few cigars from the show that I’m looking forward to getting my hands on, but from what I’ve seen on other media outlets, it’s a lot of the same. I’m amused when I see comment on the IPCPR show and their policies by either new sites (they are supposed to see if you’ve had your site up for more than a month or two) or bloggers who have never been there, or have no knowledge apart from what they’ve read…

Review: La Palina El Diario KB "Kill Bill"

Mini-Review: Belle Encre vs. Belle Encre Reserva

Good day, folks.  I’ve been smoking a fair number of both the Tatuaje Belle Encre and its Reserva brother lately, and thought I’d jot down some comparisons between the two.  The Belle Encre was a line expansion to Pete Johnson’s original Brown Label line (Seleccion de Cazador) this past year, in commemoration of Tatuaje’s 10th…
