Pairing Review: The Smoking Monk of Esteli by Drew Estate Imperial Stout

In late 2014, Drew Estate announced the release of the Smoking Monk of Esteli series.  Each Smoking Monk cigar was blended to pair with a specific type of beer.  Naturally we got excited over at Sharing Our Pairings. Drew Estate blending cigars to be paired with beer is like a dream come true!

The Smoking Monk of Esteli line is exclusive to Cigars International and can be purchased from CI or from Cigar.com.  In the coming weeks we will post reviews of each blend and also feature each…

Review: Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure de Luxe LCDH Exclusive 2012

A cigar that keeps haunting my friendly neighborhood LCDH surfing, is the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure de Luxe La Casa del Habano (LCDH) Exclusivo release from 2012.  Noted by the secondary band bearing the LCDH logo, Habanos SA has released very few cigars in this vein, and as of 2011 limited production.  Employing aged tobacco, the releases are not quite on the level of the Edicion Limitadas in terms of price, but are exclusive, and have some collectability in that regard…

Macanudo, Leccia, Tortuga and Montecristo Cigars

Sunday was supposed to be much warmer, in the 50s, but I don’t think it got out of the 40s. I still managed to get two cigar walks in. I started with a Macanudo. I know what you’re thinking, but this was the Estate Reserve no. III robusto from the 2013 IPCPR show. The Estate Reserve uses Dominican tobacco for the binder and filler, which is aged eight to ten years, and a proprietary wrapper leaf grown by a private grower in the Connecticut river valley. The cigar is silky smooth and…

Review: Partagás Serie E No.2

Habanos S.A. is always a couple years behind the American market in term of the sizes being used on their Habanos. I think it ranges from three to five years, and it is almost as if they want to see how successful a new vitola is before they put it on the market. I typically think Habanos is covered in the 40 ring gauge market, and that is why there has been an…

Review: Drew Estate Liga Privada Unico Serie L40

Drew Estate is a cigar manufacturer that most people have heard of. With a significant social media presence, they’ve consistently placed on the top cigars and top manufacturer’s for several consecutive years.

The Unico Serie of cigars which includes the UF-13, Dirty Rat, Feral Flying Pig, and L40 are a premium line. The L40 was first announced in the 2011 IPCPR, and the name comes from a…

Press Release: Caldwell/Bellatto/Sears Announces Impromptu

February 7 2015 (Miami,FL/Niles, OH) 51 weeks ago Robert Caldwell announced the release of an uber-boutique collection of cigars under the name Impromptu. This was before Caldwell was Caldwell but still was Caldwell. The project was renamed Caldwell/Bellatto/Sears because Impromptu proved itself to be a much more complicated name than the latter. That is neither Here nor There. What is Here is another release from C/B/S. What was There was a really cool project that was…

Smoking Semi-Traditional Cigars from Rocky Patel, Perdomo and La Flor Dominicana

I titled this the way I did because it seems like there are three basic categories when it comes to cigar brands, the old school, the boom brands that stuck, and the newer boutiques. Obviously the brands with Cuban names fall into the first category, Partagas, Montecristo, as well as Macanudo, which has been around since way before the mid-90s cigar boom. Then there are brands like Perdomo, Rocky Patel, La Flor Dominicana, that started in the 90s, either had a family tradition in the…

Review: La Aurora Preferido Corona Cameroon

I recently received a sampler of the new La Aurora Preferido Corona line. I honestly knew nothing about these, which is actually good for a review. I also love the corona vitola, so that's double good. I will be reviewing these one per week, starting today with the Cameroon. This is one of the first, if not THE first, Cameroon I've smoked, so we'll see how I like it.

An Ortega Mini Cigar, a Nestor Miranda and a Short Story

It’s been Maduro week so far!  Monday turned out to be very cold and windy, and after taking Macha on a car ride (she loves the car) to PetSmart for a little outing in lieu of out evening walk, I hit the back patio with an Ortega Mini Cigar in maduro.  Oddly, I was about to grab a little A. Flores Gran Reserva half corona when I came across the Ortega Mini Maduro from the 2013 IPCPR show. These are both made in the PDR factory in the Dominican Republic, which didn’t occur to me until I…

Review: Orlik Golden Sliced

Orlik Golden Sliced is a pressed flake tobacco that is produced by Orlik Tobacco Company. Orlik Golden sliced is available pretty much everywhere and comes in tins of 1.76 or 3.5 ounces. I have seen that it is available in pouches outside of the US.

There is a bit of debate on this tobacco. It is advertised that it uses “golden Virginia tobaccos with a touch of Perique”.

Depending on where you look there is a highly contested debate on whether the Golden…

Review: Avo Lounge Edition Toro

I’ve travelled down to Orlando for the past 2 years, and when I do I always make a point of stopping in Corona Cigar Company. It has given me a great opportunity to browse the shelves and find some cigars that would otherwise be impossible for me to get up in Canada. The Avo Lounge Edition is particularly limited as it is only sold at Avo lounge locations.

The Avo Lounge Edition is available in a double corona vitola (7-1/2” x 50) or the toro (6” x…

A CAO Flathead and a Headlines 1st and 2nd Edition by Fusion Cigars

I’ve only got a few cigars to feature today, largely for two reasons. First is I came home from work Friday with a screaming migraine, the second wave of which I woke up with today), and yesterday I just managed to get too much accomplished in one of our new house renovations.  I attribute this weekend’s migraines to the weather, they are calling for snow and rain again, and that’s generally a pretty normal trigger. The room wave been working on lately is a 12×10 room between the…
