Union, NJ – David Mallow, owner of Barrister Cigars in Union, NJ, today announced the 3rd New Jersey Cigar Festival scheduled for Sunday, May 4th, 2014. Like last year, this year’s event will take place at the prestigious Park Avenue Club in Florham Park, NJ from 11:00am until 4:00pm EST.
With the addition of AKA Cigars to the CigFed Store, I decided to make sure there was a review of each blend here on the site. Rob reviewed the Nthº last year, but the other blends were, thus far, not reviewed here at Cigar Federation. So, I am going to fill in the gaps for those of you who have not had a chance to smoke these cigars.…Continue

I would say I am a pretty adventurous person. I travel to third world counties for work, and when the wife and I vacation, it usually involves backpacking around Europe. I would say I am well-traveled - enough to get myself around in some pretty crazy places and blend in and not stand out like a silly tourist. Well, on this trip, I was the silly gringo who stood out in the crowd. Below is why.
I don’t speak Spanish, and no one there speaks English. Without Skip, who has learned…Continue

There are a lot of boutique cigar companies that have popped up over the last three years, but there are very few companies who have a “Tobacco Jesus” who works with them, much less are partners with a tobacco Jedi.
I met Esteban Disla a few times before this trip - once when he was at Heroes and Legacies in Austin, Texas and a…Continue
One of my favorite folks I met at IPCPR was Enrique of 1502 cigars. Enrique was positioned right behind our booth, and we quickly became good friends over his rum, my whiskey, and the bloody Mary booth. We did several interviews with Enrique during the show (Lighting before cutting the Cap!), and he was always gracious and a great host. Needless to say, he gave me a…Continue
I was fortunate enough to have a sampler pack of the newly launched Bodega cigars from the fantastic Cigar_G. Besides being a super classy Canadian from Ottawa, he’s an all around great BoTL. I went through the cigars he sent and decided the Reunión Aperitivo Double Robusto was going to be the way to go.
The Paul Stulac Phantom is my first of Paul’s, I believe, core line. I am a huge fan of the logo and banding on this cigar, and all Paul Stulac cigars really. The Phantom has a very nice, smooth, dark brown wrapper. The seams are also very smooth and clean, almost undetectable. As always, I love the torpedo vitola, and the Phantom has a sharp, clean point to it, and the shaft has smooth, rolling “waves” in it. Similar to the surface of softly rippling water. The Phantom smells of sweet…Continue
I had a realization while driving back to Managua to leave Nicaragua after one of the best vacations I have been on in my life. This fact alone is amazing since the drive is quite perilous and requires dodging people, cows, and cops wanting to shake down a gringo. Those who have driven from Managua to Esteli know exactly what I am talking about.…Continue
There was a time, which doesn’t seem that long ago, where you could smoke anywhere. You could smoke on planes, you could smoke in bars, you could smoke on patios. I wasn’t a big fan at the time, because you would go home from a pub or bar absolutely reeking of cigarette smoke with your eyes red and inflamed.
Originally I the smoking ban was implemented to make establishments non-smoking by default, and then all businesses would have to request a smoking permit. This…Continue

I should probably get around to changing the name of this blog - it seems that since winter started, I haven't been keeping to this Weekly thing very well. Hopefully, with Spring less than 30 days away, I'll soon get back to my warm weather smoking routine and this blog will make more sense. In the interim, as we have one of the worst winters in the NY area in memory, this will just be an occasional "short review" blog. It is what it is... Let's get to the good stuff.…Continue

A while back, I set out to try some of the TL Johnson line, as I continually heard good things from the cigar community. I put out some feelers for trades and ended up getting a Legend Reserve Habano dedicated for review. I did not know much about the company going in, nor could I find any info other than a website under construction and a Facebook page.

This Headley Grange Drumstick came to me by way of a side trade with a member of /r/cigars by the handle of carstenosu. It was really great of him to set up this trade as the Headley Grange Drumstick was proving extremely difficult for me to get my hands on.
Paul Stulac makes some very high quality cigars in my opinion and I have highly enjoyed the two I have reviewed thus far. (White Blinding Light & …Continue
