Finishing Up the La Aurora Preferido Coronas and Bernie Parent at Goose’s

Thursday evening I smoked the Ecuador (Sumatra) La Aurora Preferidos corona.  While this was an exceptional cigar, it had a hint of bitterness that put it in fourth place flavor-wise among the one I’ve smoked thus far in comparison.  That’s not to say it wasn’t better than many cigars out there, it just didn’t hit my palate as favorably as the others. The construction was perfect and no oozing tar! I’ve got the Maduro (Brazil) and the Broadleaf coming up, I hope I didn’t set the bar…

2014 Cigar Media Association Award for Cigar of the Year: Illusione Fume D'Amour

When the votes came in, there were cigars here and there that were receiving the Cigar of the Year vote by members of the association, but the one cigar that was consistently ranking well, if not first, by the members of the Cigar Media Association was Fume…

2014 Cigar Media Association Award for Brand of the Year Award: Crowned Heads

There were a lot of brands, both big and small, and new and old, that had a great 2014 year. In fact, there were so many that the votes were very close at times in terms of who would receive this award. But the end of the day though, the 14 members of the Cigar Media…

2014 Cigar Media Association Award for Online Media Member of the Year: Cigar Dojo

When the Cigar Media Association members discussed the concept of presenting awards, it was easy to say that we wanted a Cigar of the Year Award and a Brand of the Year Award. Those two are givens, but we wanted to offer a third award for the first year. We discussed the…

Review: Regius White Label

I have learned a lot about Regius cigars from our buddy Catfish and he has gotten me into a few good conversations with Akhil. Who is an interesting guy for sure, and has been gracious enough to share his cigars, which is great since I can not find them anywhere else. ;) A few days ago I finally got around to lighting up this White Label, and I was very pleasantly surprised.

White Label by Regius Cigars…

Another Marcus Daniel Kiev and Some La Aurora Preferidos

Sunday afternoon I decided to tackle the Connecticut Shade version of the Marcus Daniel Kiev Gran Parejo, whSunday afternoon I decided to tackle the Connecticut Shade version of the Marcus Daniel Kiev Gran Parejo, which is a large 6½ x 57 shade wrapped cigar. The cigar is pretty, and it smoked very nicely. It was very mild for the first half, almost to the point of being off-putting, making me wish I had selected something else. It eventually picked up to near medium with a…

Cigar of the Year 2014: Catfish

Well gents and ladies, it is time to post our individual Cigar of the Year 2014 lists!  This year I decided to stay at 20, as honestly I had a ton of graet smokes that I truly loved this year. Some were reviewed, some were not, and I am only posting pictures for the first five.  Really the majority of this list was released in 2013 or 2014, as it truly does take forever to get to all samples and cigars I buy.  So without further adieu my Cigar of the Year 2014 is……

Gran Habano STK Baracuda and a Marcus Daniel Cigars Kiev and a Video

It’s been a slow smoking week for me, the bitter cold here having some bearing on that.  So I figured it would be a good time so smoke some new, interesting and unusual cigars.  Friday I decided to spark up the Baracuda Maduro that the the folks at Gran Habano had sent me a few months ago. This was presented at last summer’s IPCPR show, and features a Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper, not something you typically see!  The wrapper was a few shades lighter than a typical maduro, and it had…

COVERING YOUR ASH: Miró Momentos

Cigar smokers tend to think the industry is entirely the province of the Americas, but upon closer inspection we come to realize that’s really not the case. There is plenty of high-quality leaf grown in Africa and Asia, and there is, of course, no shortage of smokers around the world, along with cigar makers who cater to them. Kuuts is one such European company that has…

Review: Sensei's Sensational Sarsaparilla by Espinosa Cigars

Espinosa Cigars created the Sensei's Sensational Sarsaparilla for Eric and the folks over at CigarDojo.com.  The Sarsaparilla is the second cigar to be "dedicated" to the Dojo.  Drew Estate released the Undercrown Dogma to much fanfare in 2014.

The Sarsaparilla is a limited run though I can't seem to find an exact number of how limited it is.  It is available in 10-count…

MBombay, La Sirena, EP Carillo, Inka Secret Blend and a Quesada Cigar

It’s gotten darned cold here in PA, my enclosed porch is nice, but tonight I’m sitting in a Cigar Cigars store that’s two miles from home smoking a Quesada Oktoberfest that was on the half off table. Nice smoke, just getting it going. Sunday I smoked a couple Churchill sized cigars, a MBombay Classic with a Connecticut shade wrapper that was fantastic. It was creamy and well behaved and kept me company while I was on the phone holding for Verizon to no avail. Great afternoon cigar,…

Review: Screwpop Tool Cigar Punch 2.0

I figured I would mix it up today and completely a review on something other than a cigar. :)

Screwpop is an interesting take on a cigar cutter. The Screwpop not only cuts your cigars but clips on to about anything and can also open your tasty beverage of choice with ease. The name Screwpop pretty much says it all.…
