I thought we had a thread for this but I didn't see it... so we do now!  What are you cigar luvin fools reading?

I'm currently re-reading the Dark Tower Series by Stephen King.  I'm about 2/3 of the way through the Drawing of the Three... great series... worth a read if you like a mix between Fantasy, Sci-fi, western, horror, action... it's got it all...

Working my way through the Mitch Rapp books by Vince Flynn... love these books... tons of action, fast paced, easy reads... it's like a mix between Jack Ryan and Jason Bourne

My last "Learning" book was 1776 by David McCullough... it was an on and off book for me and it took me a long time to get through it... but I plan on re-reading it (while not reading anything else) soon...

My To Read list:

Ender's Game

The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris by David McCullough (i like the way he writes history)

John Adams by David McCullough

Dune

American Sniper

Im finishing up Enders Game right now. Awesome book!

Yeah, I'm gonna have to check it out... my cousin was telling me about it on our fishing trip... apparently it's a whole series... anyway, it's on the list... glad to hear you liked it

The Long War.....a follow up to the Long Earth

enders game is a classic.  Can't wait to see the movie

those books sound long...

sorry... had to do it... i'll look them up on amazon, never heard of either one

if you like scifi at all they are pretty good.....different would be the best way to explain them.  never have ready anything like them before to be honest.

Currently reading the "Albany Series" by William Kennedy. Almost done with Roscoe. Working on Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller a little at a time. I loved the Dark Tower Series even though I am not a big King fan.

Absolutely loved the Dark Tower series right up until he pissed me off at the end! And I would still re-read it. Ender's Game is a quick read but fun, but I haven't been through it since high school.

Most recent thing I actually finished was George R.R. Martin's Dance with Dragons, finishing off all of what he's written so far of his Song of Fire and Ice series. This series is lots of fun and will radically piss you off, because Martin is brutal and vicious with his characters.

Nothing good on my list right now, other than some re-reads, though I've been cheating on my current re-read and listening to The Lord of the Rings on audio book! Read through it twice already, and it's nice to sit back and just listen sometimes.

Actually, I'm up in the air as to what I might read next. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy reader, and open to suggestions.

Endurance, it is the story of Shackleton's voyage to the Antarctic.

We revived the TV thread, so why not the reading thread?

I just finished I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes... it was a little long and tedious at times, but I loved it... Enjoyed the first person narrative... it was like a detective and spy novel rolled into one with a side of "chase down the terrorist" and "save the world" for good measure... Looking forward to Terry's next one...

I read The Martian by Andy Weir over Christmas and LOVED it... great book...

With baseball season on the way, I started a new audiobook called The Rook by Daniel O'Malley... This is a supernatural thriller... Dana wanted to read it, so I downloaded the audiobook for our recent trip up to her mom's... we got through the first 4 hours and it's aight... more her speed than mine...

What to read next?  As usual, I have a list of very different genres:

  • The Bat - Jo Nesbo
  • The Lions of Lucerne - Brad Thor
  • The Grand Design - Stephen Hawking
  • It - Stephen King
  • The Sun Also Rises - Hemingway
  • The Magicians - Lev Grossman
  • Any good historical biography... any suggestions?
A couple historical biographies I enjoyed were Manstien by Mongo Melvin ( I love east front books) and The Black Count by Tim Reiss( the story of Alex Dumas father of Alexandre Dumas who based his stories on his fathers adventures)
Man Rob, my list goes forever. I always have two or three books going. Love all the Clive Cussler series (Dirk Pitt is my favorite, think James Bond of the ocean world), reading The Last Ship right now, recommend the Kyle Swanson Sniper Series, Sigma Force Series, any James Rollins, and of course the Game of Thrones Series. I could talk books with you for days.

nice... yeah I read the first 4 of GOT but I need him to FINISH the books... I hate starting a series that isn't complete... If it's a trilogy, I won't start until book two is in paperback...

I don't recognize some of those authors, so I'll check them out... I have seen Rollins around, but haven't read him yet... Love Vince Flynn's stuff...
